This is a great all-around seasoning mix for meat. Very basic & extremely versatile. YUM!

I have this blend on my stove all the time, and use it for everything! The only difference is that I also add 1/4 cup onion powder to the mix you have listed. I know that Paula Deen has the recipe you listed as her house seasoning, but somewhere, sometime I read another version of her house seasoning with the onion powder addition. I've done it that way ever since!

I recently ate at Lady & Son's in Savannah and, on the way out, picked up a jar of this seasoning at her new Paul Deen store nextdoor. Looking at the ingredients on the label, it looks like they also include granulated onion. So I put together my own mix to compare it against. I am happy to announce that my non-gourmet palate found no discernable difference between the retail version and my own (small batch): 1/4 cup McCormick Kosher Salt 1 tbs. Watkins Black Pepper 1 tbs. Watkins Granulated Garlic 1 tbs. Watkins Granulated Onion (if you haven't guessed, I love Watkins spices and flavors) Interestingly enough, I haven't found Paula's "House Seasoning" recipe anywhere that lists granulated onion. Even Paula herself doesn't mention it. Soo, take this for what it's worth. But for me, I'm gonna continue to include it... 'cuz it tastes good!

I teach simple cooking to foreign students at the University here. This is one seasoning I tell them is a must!!! I have the jar sitting on my turn table at all times. To my mixture I also add 2 T good quality Sweet Paprika from Penzeys.com
