Patriotic Drink (For Kids)

Recipe #175888 | 10 min | 5 min prep | add private note
Pam-I-Am

This drink was in a Family Fun magazine a few years ago. When poured carefully, this makes a red, white and blue drink for any star-spangled occasion. It separates by using the drink with the highest sugar content on the bottom, and the least on top.

SERVES 1 (change servings and units)

Ingredients

  • 3 ounces cranberry juice or fruit punch
  • 3 ounces Gatorade sports drink (blue)
  • 3 ounces sugar free 7-Up or Sprite
  • ice cubes, fill glass to the top with cubes

Directions

  1. 1
Place the ice cubes in the bottom 3rd of a tall 12 ounce clear glass. Pour the cranberry juice or fruit punch in to fill the bottom 3rd.
  2. 2
Place a few more cubes in to the middle and pour in the blue Gatorade to fill the glass 2/3 full.
  3. 3
Place the final 3rd of ice in the glass. Pour in the diet 7up or diet Sprite.
  4. 4
    Serve and enjoy!

Excellent drink! It is certainly appropriate for our election night celebration! However, I did not use sugar free soda and it turned out fine. I did have to switch the gatorade and soda around due to sugar content.

I "high-tailed" it to the store to buy the ingred. after seeing Marg's gorgeous photo! I bought a "Frosty Blue Gatorade" that was really pale, so I added a few drops of blue food coloring and it was just the right shade. This is the kind of recipe that inspires my kids (who don't like to cook much). Thanks so much, Pam, for posting your FUN recipe. Roxygirl

We loved this drink! Even the adults! It really tasted like cranberry juice & 7up, which we mix & drink all the time. I was worried about the Gatorade, but it didn't have a negative effect on the flavor. My photo isn't quite as beautiful as NCMS', so I'll post it in the photo forum instead. But I wanted to warn everyone that I accidentally bought regular 7up & that's why it started to sink & mix with the Gatorade. Also, there are two kinds of blue Gatorade at my grocery store. One that has a name like "Frosty Blue", "Ice Blue" or something like that & then the original dark blue with no specific name. I used the dark blue. Thanks for posting Pam! I can't wait til next year to make it again!
