Aug 23, 2002

I got this recipe from FamilyFun magazine and have used it on numerous craft products. The texture is so smooth, totally non-toxic, and not sticky like other papier mache recipes.

4 cups (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1
Combine flour and cold water in bowl.
  2. 2
Add this mixture to 2 cups boiling water in saucepan.
  3. 3
    Bring to a boil again.
  4. 4
Remove from heat and stir in sugar.
  5. 5
    Let cool.
  6. 6
    Will thicken as it cools.
  7. 7
Once it thickens and cools it is ready to use.
  8. 8
Dip newspaper strips in papier mache and take off excess.
  9. 9
Allow to dry several hours, till stiff.

This is soooo much better than the other papier mache recipes I've used; guess it's the boiling water and sugar that make all the difference. Not lumpy at all. We used it over balloons to make globes for geography study...a layer or two a day for about three days made them rock solid - even the two yr old dropping them didn't make a dent. Think we'll use it next over empty juice concentrate cans for artsy pencil holders. :o) Thanks!!
