Kumquat the Cat's friend

Posted for Zaar 2005 World Tour. This comes from a cookbook of countries along the Danube. The recipe is from Germany. I have not tried this recipe yet. Update: Just tried this the other night. The potatoes have a really nice texture! I could see adding garlic or more onion if you want. I recommend sprinkling the salt more evenly over the potatoes instead of combining it with the butter, but otherwise it's very tasty!

SERVES 6 (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1
Preheat oven to 425 degrees F.
  2. 2
Layer potato slices in 13x9x2 inch baking dish lightly sprayed with oil.

Melt butter in small saucepan and stir in grated onion, salt and pepper.
  4. 4
Pour over potatoes and bake for about 45 minutes or until tender when pierced with fork.
  5. 5
Sprinkle with parsley, thyme and cheese and bake for an additional 15 minutes or until cheese is melted.

I love this recipe! I added garlic to the butter mix and otherwise followed the recipe. Watch the cheese if you're using a different variety because some toast up a lot quicker (whoops!). Thanks for a wonderful addition.

So easy and delicious! The herbs added a great touch. I omitted the salt (personal preference). Thanks for sharing!

These potatoes were sooo good! I baked the potatoes on a large jelly roll pan covered in foil and coated with vegetable oil spray. I had to have a little of most of the potatoes overlapping just a little bit in order to fit all of the potato slices. I used 1 tablespoon of a melted(by microwave),light butter spread and brushed it on the potatoes. It was a perfect amount. I then sprinkled about 1/2 a small, diced onion on the tops. I followed this by just sprinkling on pepper and salt without measuring. I'm sure I used more than 1/8 teaspoon of pepper. I baked the potatoes for 30 minutes. Then, I sprinkled them with dried parsley flakes and dried thyme without measuring again. I followed this up with the cheese for the topping. Since I made the potatoes like I described, all of them were covered with spices and toppings. It was delicious!

My daughter was over the night that I made these and she demanded that I give her the recipe and she has been making them a couple of times a week since I gave her the recipe. They are wonderful tasty and easy to make. Thank you for a great potato recipe. We make them often.
