Opposite of a Smoothie: Breakfast Crunchy

Recipe #290090 | 2 min | 2 min prep | add private note
Debber

Beautiful presentation: a breakfast parfait! Instead of slurping, you get to spoon it up. Endless variations depending on your own tastes--so customize as you like. The recipe is made for ONE serving, adjust to the number of diners. If you let the Crunchy sit for an hour or so, the cereal absorbs moisture from the yogurt and goes from crunchy to chewy. Use frozen or fresh fruit, depending on what you have available.

SERVES 1 , 1 parfait glass (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1
In a tumbler or parfait glass, artfully layer 2-tablespoon portions of yogurt, cereal and fruit into the glass, continuing until ingredients are used up, or glass looks properly full and beautiful.
  2. 2
End with the fruit (for prettiness sake), sprinkle with sweetener OR leave it out, according to your tastebuds.
  3. 3
    Enjoy!
  4. 4
VARIATION #1: use other-flavored yogurts to compliment OR contrast the fruit flavors; use your imagination.
  5. 5
VARIATION #2: other cereals work well too (Grapenuts, Muesli, flakes).
  6. 6
VARIATION #3: how about peaches or mangoes? Halved grapes, orange bits, canned fruit cocktail (drained); let your imagination go!
  7. 7
VARIATION #4: sprinkle in a few mini-chocolate chips, raisins, dried cranberries. Ymmm!

Used to make this all the time as a kid (using plain yogurt and adding vanilla). This time used frozen blueberries and plain yogurt (adding my own vanilla to taste). Thanks for sharing Made for PAC Fall 2008

Love this for its versatility and it's quickness. 4 mins! Hankering for something sweet for a midnight snack without having to go through the ordeal of preparing much and this is it! I used homemade vanilla pudding/yogurt, topped with granola cereals with muesli, raisins, cranberries, banana chips topped with fruit cocktail and a cherry. I'm solved for the night and will try another for breakfast next time. Thanks, Debber! Made for WZT4's Family Picks.

Thanks, Debber for this recipe.. I used Cherry yogurt, homemade granola and blackberries. Yum! I will be trying some of the variations, too. Made for Zaar World Tour 4 for the Chic Chefs.

As usual, Debber, A GREAT RECIPE! This one caught my eye because it's a smoothie (or it's NOT!), & I just had to try it! I often like my smoothies THICK enough so that I have to use a spoon, so. . . For this 1st time around I used vanilla yogurt, mixed berries (blue, rasp & marion) & my own granola mix of nuts, dried fruits & some wheat flakes! WONDERFUL!
