Found this recipe years OK in a Pfaltzgraff book and it's one thing I make that every one in the family LOVES and always request. There are a lot of ingredients but don't let it stop you, they are great. There are several similar recipes here already but all are just a little different. The added sausage and liquid smoke makes a yummy difference. Always a big hit at barbecues. It makes a lot so great for those family summer gatherings. Edited in response to Brenda's review - I checked the recipe and it doesn't remark on draining the beans - but I do it the same way, drain all but the pork & beans and it seems to be perfect.

SERVES 10 -12 (change servings and units)

Directions

  1. 1
Brown bacon, onions, hamburger and sausage.

  4. 4
Combine beans in large oven safe pot (I use a bean pot) and cover.

Very good! I did cut back a bit on the sugar and it was the perfect sweetness for us. I wasn't sure if I was to drain the canned beans so I drained and rinsed the Kidney and Baby Butterbeans. The pork & Beans I added without draining and I felt the dish had the perfect consistancy. I used a nice piece of Kielbasa for the sausage. I thought they tasted even better the next day. Thanks for sharing.

I made this for a family dinner and it was good but a bit to sweet for us. Used turkey bacon, ground round, and Bush's baked beans. Definitely comfort food and does make a lot so a large family would do well with this. Made and reviewed for PAC 2007...thank you Bonnie!
