A friend brought these to a picnic. After one taste of the warm-from-the-oven cookie, I knew I had to have the recipe. These are now the most requested cookie by my family. The recipe makes a HUGE batch of big cookies, but they do freeze very well. The 5 dozen amount is a guess, I've never counted! We love these and hope you will too!

SERVES 30 , 5 dozen, approx. (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.
  2. 2
Cream together, using a stand mixer: butter, sugar and brown sugar.
  3. 3
Add the eggs, one at a time, and the vanilla. Blend well.
  4. 4
Blend 2 1/2 cups of the oatmeal in a food processor or blender.
  5. 5
In a separate large bowl, mix together: flour, all of the oatmeal (2 1/2 cups processed and 2 1/2 cups whole), salt, baking powder and baking soda.
  6. 6
Add the dry mixture, on low - a bit at a time, to the wet ingredients and blend together until fully incorporated.
  7. 7
Add the chocolate chips and blend in on low. (Add nuts here, too, if you want.).
  8. 8
Scoop balls onto cookie sheets, spaced a few inches apart. I like to make them about 1 inch balls.
  9. 9
Bake for about 10 minutes, depending on your oven.
  10. 10
Get the gallon of milk ready!

WOW, these cookies are great indeed! I made 1/4 of the recipe, cause there's only 2 in my household. Still I got a large amount of cookies and those didnt last long around here. Mmm, luved the crunchyness and the lovely oaty, chocolaty taste of these morsels! My only change was to reduce the sugar down to 1/4 cup for 1/4 recipe, which still was sweet to me. THANKS SO MUCH for sharing this real keeper with us, LIG! It will be made again and again! Made and reviewed for Veggie Swap #16 November 09.

These are the best oatmeal chocolate chip cookies I've ever made — and I've made plenty! I planned to cut this recipe in half, as other reviewers did, but forgot to. At the dry ingredient stage, I just got the dry ingredients barely to mix in my little Kitchenaid mixer (without smoke coming forth), and couldn't add another spoonful of anything — and so mixed the chocolate chips in with the batter in a very large separate bowl. This makes a TON of incredibly delicious and mouth-watering cookies! Thanks, LifeIsGood! Made for Veggie Recipe Swap.

One of the best oatmeal cookies I've every had, thank you! I used dark brown sugar (a little more intense flavor) & included toasted pecans this time around! Made the entire batch up for a group I host each month & sacked up 6 in a bag along with the recipe for each of those in the group! This keeper of a recipe was most appreciated!
