Nif's Copycat Japanese Village Sesame Steak Sauce

Recipe #346353 | 10 min | 10 min prep | add private note

This is a really close copy of the amazing sauce that you get when you order steak at Japanese Village, a teppanyaki restaurant here in Canada. The chefs cook the steak on the stovetop and give you this sauce to dip it in. Most people that I know order it to dip everything in from veggies to shrimp because it's so good! The servings estimate was hard to guess. It depends on how much you like. I tried and tried to find a good recipe online and ended up playing with a couple of them to come up with this. I would try this over almost anything or as a dip for any meat, fondue, Shabu Shabu, etc. Enjoy!

SERVES 8 -10 , 1 3/4 cup (change servings and units)

Ingredients

  • 2/3 cup white sesame seeds, toasted until just golden brown
  • 2 teaspoons dry mustard
  • 1 teaspoon water
  • 2/3 cup soya sauce
  • 2/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoon garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup white onion, finely chopped

Directions

  1. 1
In a medium bowl, stir water into dry mustard until smooth.
  2. 2
Add the soya sauce and vegetable oil to mustard. Stir and then pour into blender.
  3. 3
Add sesame seeds, garlic and onion to blender and blend for 2 minutes on low and then 2 minutes on high. It should be quite smooth when finished.
  4. 4
This would typically be served cold or at room temperature.

This is a nice sauce for dipping! I used it on my steak and we really liked it! I used low sodium soy sauce and it worked well! I think this would go great with steamed shrimp, or even over Japanese noodles, seafood, and veggies. I will be experimenting with this and trying it on sushi as well! This is a very good recipe. I like my steak with a dipping sauce sometimes, and this recipe was a fit. I wanted to cut the recipe in half, but figured that with so few ingredients and such small amounts that I would do better to make a full recipe. I will use this recipe again for dipping crisp veggies, or spring rolls. I think too that a Light soy sauce could be substituted. I'll experiment next time. Thanks for sharing this recipe. I will make it again.
