I won first place in a pie-making contest with this pie, out of 21 entries. It's a real winner! I used butter instead of lard in the crust, so the crust was yummy and buttery tasting too. I find a tiny sliver is all you need though - very, very rich.

Definitely five stars! So easy, and so delicious. As recommended in a few reviews, I used just 1/2 cup of butter, and it was still very rich. I reheated the whole pie for 10 minutes at 300, and served with vanilla ice cream. Thanks for sharing!

I've been making this pie each Cmas and Thanksgiving for about 15 years. It's deliciously rich and better served warm. This recipe is exactly like mine (from a magazine ad for Nestle), but I noticed on the Nestle's site, they've decreased the butter to 3/4 cup. If you use the reg. size chips, they may sink to the bottom, I've been using the mini chips and they hold their position more so than reg.chips. I've used pecans and walnuts both and they're equally good in the pie. I bake this pie for my brother-in-law's bday, too. It's a big hit with my entire family!

I followed other reviewer's suggestions and used 3/4 cup butter. Doubled the recipe and made two pies. They came out perfectly. With other Toll House pie recipes I often ended up with an undercooked center. These were perfect. I did cover the pie with foil for the last 10 minutes or so.
