This was my fourth or fifth attempt at making basic chocolate chip cookies. I threw out almost all of the other ones I made and just when I was giving up hope I made these. They were amazing. I didn't have shortening so I used all butter and they still turned out perfectly. I halved the recipe and still had a ton of cookies!!! Thanks!!!

I am giving these 4 stars because I had to bake them for about 12 minutes for them to get done in the middle, and then they spread out. I like my cookies soft and chewy, and usually remove mine half baked, but I could not even remove these from the cookie sheet unless I went 12 minutes, too underdone if baked less. I followed the recipe exactly too, maybe my oven is off. They were chewy and soft, but I would like a thicker cookie. Great flavor, though!

PERFECT. Every chocolate chip cookie recipe I've ever tried has spread out too far. These are perfect. They're chewy, soft, crisp on the outside. Amazing.

I have tried several cookie recipes from this site, including a lot of highly rated chocolate chip cookie recipes. These were by far the best and most reliable. I use several different type cookie sheets, and they always turned out great. This was definitely the best recipe!
