Sadly, this recipe turned out nothing like what I had hoped. I followed the recipe exactly as written, with no substitutions or changes whatsoever. I was expecting cake--even a dense one, based on the reviews, but what I got was much more like a very heavy brownie. It was moist, it was dense, but it wasn't what I would call cake. Much, much more like a brownie. I also found it to be extremely sweet. The sweetness of the cake really overpowered the cocoa and the chocolate flavor was not allowed to come through very well. The cake was easy enough to make, but it just isn't one I'll be making again.

Nimz, this is the best chocolate cake I've ever had. It's moist and just the right amount of chocolate. This will be the only recipe I use from here on out for a traditional chocolate cake. My sister helped me make it last weekend for a birthday party, and it was so good we had to make it again already. Edited to say that OF THE 350 RECIPES I REVIEWED IN 2008, THIS HAS GONE INTO MY TOP 20 FAVORITES COOKBOOK.

This is a really good chocolate cake, I used half brown and half white sugar. This cake was moist and chocolaty.

This cake was great! I made it for a workmate's birthday and there wasn't a crumb left of it at the end of the day! The recipe is really straight forward and makes a dense, moist and very rich cake. I used a springform instead of a 9x13 inch pan and adjusted the cooking time, it took about 40-45 minutes until the skewer came ut clean. Thanks for sharing!
