Monkey Munch from Jon and Kate Plus 8

Recipe #290434 | 20 min | 5 min prep | add private note

This is a treat / dessert that was mentioned on the TLC Show "Jon and Kate Plus Eight." There's another recipe presently on Recipezaar (http://www.recipezaar.com/288188) that states IT is the Monkey Munch recipe. I found a link to THIS "chex cereal" only version on the Gosselin's website (http://www.sixgosselins.com/). My daughter is too young for this sort of treat just yet, but I definitely wanted to keep it in my pocket for later! I look forward to trying both versions! The original version of this recipe is on the Chex site: http://www.chexmix.com/Recipes/RecipeView.aspx?RecipeId=19919&CategoryId=342

SERVES 18 , 9 cups (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1
Put chex in a large bowl and put aside.
  2. 2
Place chocolate chips, peanut butter and butter into a quart-sized microwavable bowl.
  3. 3
    Stir the ingredients together.
  4. 4
Microwave the mixture uncovered for a minute on "high." Stir the mix again and continue to zap in thirty second intervals until it mixes smoothly.
  5. 5
    Add the vanilla and stir.
  6. 6
Put combination into a 2-gallon, Ziploc freezer bag.
  7. 7
Add powdered sugar, seal the bag and shake until distributed.
  8. 8
Spread Monkey Munch out on wax paper to cool and dry.
  9. 9
Keep refrigerated in an airtight container for storage.

Very yummy. I used Life ceral as here they dont seel Chex. -just a funny note I put it in a ziplock bag I had used and washed previously. Well apparently there was a hole in it and when I gave it a big squish a whole bunch of chocolate squished out as well all over my hads! So make sure the bag has no holes! lol

Puppy Chow, as we've always called it, is highly addictive. I've always found the adults eat way more than the kiddos! This was copied straight from the Chex website with one important omission: "Pour mixture over cereal, stirring until evenly coated. Pour into 2-gallon resealable food-storage plastic bag." For anyone just starting out in the kitchen, the directions as currently posted could be confusing since they do not detail what to do with the cereal.

This is so good and very addicting... I'm going to make it for my son's birthday party too. It is also really easy to make!

This is stuff us great! However, we always have called it puppy chow (I didn't check to see if this is in zaar or not , under puupy chow that is ) I have also used Kix because those little round balls are easier to coat than the chex. I imagine you could use cheerios too if you wanted.
