This has been a favorite in our family for as long as I can remember. I use it on tacos, chimichangas, with chips, tamales, enchiladas, burritos, scrambled eggs, taco salads, Mexican rice, huevos rancheros, fried potatoes...you get the point. This recipe is an ATTEMPT to get the spices right since Mom doesn't measure the ingredients. (Nor do I.) Feel free to adjust seasonings to your taste. Please note: The salsa needs to sit in the fridge for at least 2-3 hours for the flavors to meld.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1
Combine all ingredients in a large bowl.
  2. 2
Cover and refrigerate until ready to use.
  3. 3
NOTE: I use an empty, clean mayonnaise jar to make this. Put all the ingredients in the jar, cover and shake well. Stick in the fridge to have on hand whenever you need it.

This is very good. It is more like taco sauce than salsa but still very good. It was what I was looking for. My son doesn't like chunky salsa and this fits the bill. I think I will grind up the oregano a little more next time though. Also this isn't a mild salsa. It's not terribly hot but for small children or someone who doesn't like a lot of heat you may want to adjust the amount of pepper flakes. We like the heat so it was fine for us. Thanks for sharing this recipe.

Very good and easy! I like my salsa chunky, so next time I may add some diced tomatoes. As written it would be good for recipes where salsa is used for flavor. Glad I tagged it for PRMR

Wonderful salsa and so simple to make! My DD asked me to not buy salsa at the store anymore and just make this from now on. Perfect seasonings and enough heat for those that like a little kick. Served this with Karamia's Cheesy Bean Enchiladas topped with sour cream and tortilla chips. Thank you rickoholic83 for posting the great recipe!

This is just way too easy to taste so good! It was a nice accompaniment to Mini Souffles. There is no end to its uses. I plan on using it on some chile rellenos next. I also appreciate that it is made with all ingredients that you have in your pantry. The spices seemed just right to me although I did substitute using half the amount of garlic powder in place of the granulated garlic because it was what I had on hand. EASY and GooD!
