Mom's Pat-A-Pie Pie Crust

Recipe #355695 | 5 min | 5 min prep | add private note

Original recipe by Esther Gilbertson, I believe. A quick and easy way to make a pie crust, or as it was originally called "oil pastry" with no fuss but excellent results. When recipe calls for salad oil, I took this to mean anything you'd use on a salad and put in half canola half organic olive oil.

SERVES 1 , 1 pie (change servings and units)

Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2/3 cup salad oil
  • 3 tablespoons milk

Directions

  1. 1
Sift flour, sugar and salt into a bowl.
  2. 2
    Whip oil and milk together.
  3. 3
Pour over flour mixture and mix with a fork.
  4. 4
Pat 2/3 of the dough into a pie plate.
  5. 5
    Use filling of your choice.
  6. 6
Crumble rest of dough on top.
  7. 7
    Bake as for any pie.

I did not care for this recipe. Flavor was good and it was very easy to make and handle, but after baking could touch crust without it falling all to pieces.
