I have been making ever since my son was small and even though my son is all grown up now they are still requested --- these bars are best if eaten the same day.

16 squares (change servings and units)

Ingredients

  • 4 regular-size Mars bars
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 2 cups Rice Krispies
  • 1 cup milk chocolate chips
  • chopped nuts (optional)

Directions

  1. 1
Melt butter and Mars bars over med-low heat in a large saucepan until smooth.
  2. 2
Remove from heat; stir in Rice Krispies cereal, and nuts, (if using).
  3. 3
Press into a greased 8x8 pan.
  4. 4
Top with chocolate chips, and place under broiler for 30 seconds Remove from oven and spread chocolate evenly over squares.
  5. 5
    Store in fridge.
  6. 6
    Cut into squares, and serve.

I found there was too much butter. It needed more rice krispies for my taste. Next time I'll omit the chocolate chips because there's enough chocolate from the mars bars. They are very good though. One is enough.

I've had virtually the same recipe (mine calls for 3 cups of Rice Krispies) in my card box for a while and finally tried it tonight. Wow. DANGEROUS. Just a little bit sure satisfies the ol' cravings!! Now if only I could limit myself to a little bit...

Wow - DH loved them! That alone makes this recipe a keeper, although I loved them too. FYI, I read recently somewhere that Mars bars are now known as Snickers with almonds, so that's what I used.

Great treat! This was everyone's fave of all my Christmas baking. I used Mars bars once but found them too chewy for grandma (there was caramel) so next time I used Milky Way. Both were yummy!
