This was the million dollar winner a couple of years ago in the Pillsbury Bake-Off in Dallas, Texas. It has a wonderful rich taste. (This was the 1st time a man had won the bake-off.)

SERVES 12 (change servings and units)

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup sweetened condensed milk, preferably low-fat kind
  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

  • 1 (20 ounce) package devil's food cake mix
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 5-6 canned pear halves in natural juice, pureed (about 1 1/4 cups)
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/3 cup chopped macadamia nuts or pecans
  • 2 teaspoons water
  • 2 cups butterscotch sundae sauce
  • 1/3 cup milk

Directions

  1. 1
    Preheat oven to 350.
  2. 2
Spray a 9" or 10" springform pan with Pam.
  3. 3
In a small saucepan, combine condensed milk and chocolate chips.
  4. 4
Heat on med-low setting til chocolate is melted, stirring occasionally.
  5. 5
In a large bowl, combine cake mix, cinnamon and oil until crumbly.
  6. 6
Place pears in a blender and blend until smooth.
  7. 7
In a large bowl, combine 2 1/2 cups of the cake mix mixture, pears and eggs.
  8. 8
(The rest of the cake is used for the topping.) Beat with an electric mixer at low speed until moistened, then at med speed for 2 minutes.
  9. 9
Spread batter evenly in prepared pan.
  10. 10
Drop chocolate chip mixture by spoonfuls over the batter.
  11. 11
Stir nuts and water into remaining cake mix mixture blending well, and sprinkle over batter.
  12. 12
Bake 45-50 minutes or until top springs back lightly when touched in center.
  13. 13
(Be careful not to overbake or cake will be dry.) Cool 10 minutes.
  14. 14
Remove side of pan and cool.
  15. 15
Combine butterscotch topping and milk in saucepan over med-low heat heat for 3-4 minutes or until well blended, stirring occasionally.

My friend brought this torte to my house as part of a dinner party. I made dinner and she made this to-die-for dessert. She (evilly) left the rest of it in my place - I have been eating a piece every night for dessert. I heat it for 20 seconds in the microwave and spoon vanilla ice cream over it. My new favorite torte!!!! You have to try it.

This torte is sooooo AMAZING. I had a few friends over for dinner so I decided to try and impress them with this recipe and I had them ALL licking their plates clean. I don't know why more people haven't tried this wonderful dessert. I have full intention on distributing this recipe to every girl I know!! I didn't change a thing, and my torte came out PERFECT. The pears really give a nice subtle, different touch. I insist that EVERYONE on zaar try this one!

This is a fabulous recipe--I actually used it as a base for a wedding cake that I made for my cousin. Everyone was after me for the recipe, which I got from the "Cake Doctor" cookbook. The only change I made was to serve a sauce that was half hot fudge and half caramel ice cream toppings. Serve to friends, or at your next company dinner--an impressive dessert!

This exact dessert was served at a party I attended yesterday. It is DELICIOUS! Everyone asked for the recipe, including me. I was going to post it here, but found it had already been posted. She served it with a dollop of whipped cream. Lovely presentation and an elegant, dessert. More folks should try it.
