Lotion for Dry Skin

Recipe #143640 | 10 min | 5 min prep | add private note

I work in an office with 5 doctors and as you know, doctors are always washing their hands which makes them dry. We make this lotion for them and they LOVE IT!! **UPDATE 3/31/09: I use 4 oz. of Vaseline petroleum jelly, it would not let me enter it on the ingredients part and for the Vitamin E, you can use lotion or cream, whatever you like or can find. I also tried the NEW cucumber melon baby lotion....AWESOME!!, husband and son liked it but I still like the regular pink the best. I ONLY use J&J baby lotion because it seems to work the best. Thanks to everyone who has given me reviews....

SERVES 4 (change servings and units)

Ingredients

  • 2 (9 ounce) bottles of baby lotion

  • 2 (8 ounce) jars of vitamin e lotion
  • vaseline petroleum jelly

Directions

  1. 1
Pour everything into a large bowl and mix with electric mixer until smooth. Pour into lotion pump bottles.
  2. 2
I guess you could add essential oils if the "baby smell" is not to your liking.

I made a 1/2 batch of this and had to use Vitamin e oil because I couldn't find the lotion and maybe that's the reason this is a little greasy. I don't like it on my hands but it's great for feet and legs! Love it!

Between cooking and gardening, I'm always washing my hands. This lotion is great. I also zapped the petroleum jelly, also with vitamin E, and then put everything in my Kitchen Aid and whipped it until it was fluffy. I got more than a large Mason jar from the mixture. Both my Husband and I are using this mixture. Thanks for sharing.

Please do not take too much of the previous posters comments to heart...almost all lotions on the market (with the exception of a specific sum) contain some form or petroleum (petrolatum etc). I can't speak for all lotions, but I've used quite a few that did my skin a lot of good and they did contain petroleum or petroleum products. Second, oxidation is not good. The process of oxidation creates free radicals and free radicals are what prematurely age the skin and the body. That is why physicians and dieticians are always pushing the comsumption of antioxidants (anti....). The most important reason to not take their post to heart is that no one formula works for everyone. Hazelnut oil might work fantastically for DEEP, but might cause my skin to break out or have an allergic reaction. A nice comment about petroleum facts might have been appreciated, but blasting your negative opinion where it's not wanted is not appreciated.

I love this lotion!! I have been making this for several years and it works wonders for my very dry skin. I use vitamin E cream instead of lotion, and the amount of petroleum jelly I use is 8 oz. Also, I heat the petroleum jelly in the microwave until it is slightly soft, NOT melted. It just makes it easier to mix together. This makes a large batch and the nice thing is, all of the ingredients can be bought at your local $1.00 store.
