Lee Lee's Famous Chocolate Sauce for Ice Cream

Here it is folks! First time ever in print! My Mom's famous hot chocolate sauce for ice cream sundaes. These are ingredients you more than likely always have on hand. Try this once and you will never buy store bought sauce again!

SERVES 4 -6 (change servings and units)

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2-2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/4 cup water (more or less, as needed to make a stirable consistency)
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions

  1. 1
    Combine sugar, cocoa, and salt in small saucepan.
  2. 2
    Add enough water to make stirable consistency.
  3. 3
    Add butter to cocoa mixture.
  4. 4
    Bring to a boil over medium high heat, stirring constantly.
  5. 5
    Allow to boil for 1 minute, stirring.
  6. 6
    Remove from heat.
  7. 7
    Add vanilla.
  8. 8
    Serve warm over ice cream.
  9. 9
    Add sliced bananas and chopped walnuts if you really want a treat!

I doubled this recipe and used heaping tbsps of cocoa. I also substituted milk for the water. It took minutes, and while it's not the best chocolate sauce ever, for a recipe this simple with things that are always in the pantry, it's earned all 5 stars.

    This is a wonderful recipe!! I substituted half & half for the water and used turbinado sugar. This made a perfect topping for vanilla ice cream and spanish peanuts. Everybody went crazy over the sauce. I caught one person licking my pan!

    I'm giving this review based on the feedback from my kids and grandkids. I don't eat ice cream but they all love it and eat it pretty much daily! We use a bottled fudge sauce from an ice cream and candy shop in florida (at about $12 per 16 oz jar!!) as a topping because everyone thinks its the bomb - well, it just got replaced by Lee Lee creation!! Kids and adults alike were ooohing and awwwwing over this - my pregnant daughter in law was lapping it up by the spoonful! Thank you for sharing this one Bev - I have a feeling I'll be making it alot!

    Excellent and easy! I added a whole tsp of pure vanilla for a richer flavor.
