The amounts listed are only a guideline you may adjust to taste and make as many sandwiches as desired

SERVES 1 (change servings and units)

Ingredients

  • 2 slices white bread or whole wheat bread or pumpernickel bread
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 4 teaspoons soft butter (more for the skillet)
  • 3 slices tomatoes (thinly sliced or to taste)
  • 1 slice American cheese (such as Kraft)

Directions

  1. 1
Spread 1 tablespoon mayonnaise on each slice of bread.
  2. 2
Place 1 slice of cheese over the side of the bread with the mayonnaise, then 3 slices of tomato.
  3. 3
Top with remaining bread slice (mayonnaise side facing in).
  4. 4
Butter the outside of each slice of bread with about 2 teaspoon butter per slice (or to taste).
  5. 5
Heat about 1 tablespoon or more of butter in a skillet over medium heat.
  6. 6
Using a spatula place the sandwich into the skillet.
  7. 7
When the cheese has started to melt carefully flip the sandwich over and continue cooking until both sides are golden brown and the cheese has melted (adding in a little more butter to the skillet if needed).

I've been making this one for years...Love it. It is also sooo good with Provolone cheese! That is probably my favorite way to make it.
