This is the most delicious coleslaw that you will ever have! I make this for weddings, large socials and in the summer for BBQ's and parties, and there is never anything left it all goes and everyone wants the recipe --- plan ahead the coleslaw needs to be refrigerated for the stated time to blend the flavors, this coleslaw will intensify in flavor with chilling time --- this is not a thick heavy dressing like some other coleslaw recipes it's the perfect texture and flavor and what makes this coleslaw stand out from all others is the fresh lemon juice so please use only fresh I have used bottled in the past and it is just not the same, for extra flavor add in a chopped apple and toasted walnuts just before serving ----------- FOR BROCCOLI SLAW make dressing as stated, use 2 (16-ounce) packages broccoli coleslaw mix, 1-1/2 cups sweetened cranberries and 2 cups pistachio nuts

SERVES 8 -10 (change servings and units)

Ingredients

DRESSING

Directions

  1. 1
In a food processor chop the cabbage into small pieces (should look like about the size of confetti) or shred the cabbage.
  2. 2
Transfer to a large mixing bowl.
  3. 3
With a fine shredder, shred the peeled carrots; add to the cabbage in the bowl.
  4. 4
Chop the green onion finely; add to the cabbage/carrot mixture along with the celery seed.
  5. 5
Mix the three veggies all together with a wooden spoon.
  6. 6
To make the dressing: in a medium glass bowl whisk together all the dressing ingredients starting with the lower amounts then adding in and adjusting to suit taste but using 1/3 cup plus 2 tablespoons sugar.
  7. 7
Pour over the veggies in the bowl, and mix well to combine.
  8. 8
Store covered in the refrigerator for at least 8 hours or overnight (overnight is better) to blend flavours.

Sorry, but our family didn't care for this particular dressing. As I made it, I kept tasting it. I was really pleased until the addition of the last three ingredients. I used the smaller amounts, and even skimped on the black pepper. But, after that, the dressing seemed very salty and too peppery. We didn't care for the addition of the garlic powder, either. Also, I used the full 2 teaspoons of celery seed because we usually love them. But in this recipe they seemed to make it slightly bitter.

I used the dressing on a package of coleslaw. Very easy to put together and it makes a great dressing for the coleslaw. I let it sit overnight in the refrigerator so the flavors could blend. Thanks for sharing.

Hi KITTEN; This is the best Coleslaw that I have ever had. Some many years ago, the WHITE SPOT used to have a similar Coleslaw but not near as good as yours. The blending of the dressing ingredients is excellent. The celery seed is a super-great addition to the coleslaw. This recipe deserves more than 5 stars and I shall consider it at least a 10 star. Thank you for sharing this marvelous recipe with us. "Uncle Bill"

You promised and you are right! I'm the only one in the house who will eat cole slaw(cold slob-the kids say!)and I'm going to eat this whole recipe (in a matter of several days, of course! LOL!) I didn't have any buttermilk or 1/2 and 1/2 so I used 1 cup cottage cheese and 1 cup milk and blended all the dressing in the blender. MAGNIFICO!
