A request for condensed milk recipes made me wonder if this was on here. I can't find it, so I'm posting it. It's a real old Aussie (and probably New Zealand) favourite, and is easy to make. I love it.

1 tray of slice (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Base

  • 250 g plain sweet biscuits (cookies)
  • 185 g butter, melted

Filling

Topping

Directions

  1. 1
Combine crushed biscuits and butter mixing well; press into greased 30cm X 23cm (12" X 9") pan and refrigerate.
  2. 2
Combine condensed milk, lemon juice and gelatin mix.
  3. 3
Mix well and pour over prepared base; refrigerate 2 hours.
  4. 4
Mix jelly powder and boiling water together, then add cold water.
  5. 5
Refrigerate until consistency of unbeaten egg white, pour over lemon layer.
  6. 6
Refrigerate, then cut into squares when set.
  7. 7
*I prefer a red jelly for this, but any flavour would be OK.

This is one of those sweets that reminds you of when you were a kid. love it! Just personally i don't like mine too lemon-y so i just cut it down to 1 larger lemon.

This turned out great for me and reminded me of being a kid again! I had to add a little more buter to the base as i don't have a food processor to get the biscuits really crumby, but apart from that it was perfect, just like my mum used to make it! Thanks

This was one of my favourite treats as a kid and this recipe recreated it perfectly as I remembered it. Good instructions too regarding letting the layers set before adding the jelly which definately needs to be allowed to thicken first or it will seep into the middle layer. Thanks!

I haven't had this since high school! I'd forgotten how great it is, not to mention how easy to make! I made a tray of it on Saturday, and by Sunday evening it was all gone. I took most of it to a bbq and everyone loved it, I'm so rapt to have a recipe for this great slice again! Thanks for posting Jan!
