This is so so so good and cold on a hot summer's day! You can also make it up to 2 months in advance, so you can have it ready for unexpected guests I have modified this so much and tried it different ways, but the best is below with all of the optional ingredients used! I am the "dessert person" at all of the family gatherings and this is the most requested all the time! Enjoy!

SERVES 12 -15 (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1
Cut one ice cream sandwich in half.
  2. 2
Put one whole and one half ice cream sandwich along the short side of a 9" x 13" baking dish.
  3. 3
Arrange eight ice cream sandwiches in opposite direction evenly in bottom of pan.
  4. 4
Spread with half of the whipped topping.
  5. 5
Drizzle or dollop most of fudge topping on top of whipped topping (save a couple tablespoons).
  6. 6
Drizzle optional toppings (if using) and nuts on top, reserving a couple tablespoons of each.
  7. 7
Repeat another layer of ice cream sandwiches.
  8. 8
    Top with remaining whipped topping.
  9. 9
Fancily drizzle remaining hot fudge, butterscotch and strawberry toppings on top, along with walnuts or wet nuts.
  10. 10
Cover and freeze for up to 2 months.
  11. 11
Remove from freezer 20-30 minutes before serving.
  12. 12
Cut into squares and top with a few maraschino cherries.
  13. 13
Serve slices bananas on the side for people who are in a banana split mood and want to top theirs with bananas!
  14. 14
    YUM YUM YUM!

Wow! This was yummy! I used banana split ice cream bars, Hershey's hot fudge, caramel sauce, and toasted pecans. My dh said no one would have known it was made with ice cream bars. Yet another 5 star recipe that deserves its rating!

I have made this several times now, using a variety of added ingredients. We like crumbledrnHeath bars for one layer and malted milk balls for the other. This weekend I wanted to make a dessert but there were only 4 of us. I used an 8x8 pan and only one layer of ice cream sandwiches. It was still too much but it is great to have a recipe which is so adaptable. I haven't found a soul who doesn't love it. It is sooooo easy.

My stars! This is soooooo yummy! Made according to recipe using half va ice cream sandwiches (bottom layer) and chocolate ice cream sandwiches (top layer). Popped it in the freezer 2 days ahead. Everyone LOVED it, especially the grandkids. DS requested the recipe he enjoyed it so much. Can't think of a single thing I'd change next time. I also like that you can make a half batch if you have a smaller number of people... however, since it keeps in the freezer, maybe just keep it on hand! I loved it. Very easy and definitely will be made again... and again... and again! Thanks for sharing the recipe!
