Recipe #220209 | 30 min | 30 min prep | add private note

This is a really simple dish. It makes a great entree for 6 or a main meal for 4 people. This recipe can easily be made gluten-free - just ensure your ingredients are gluten-free. Most tamari sauce is GF or I use "Fountain" brand soy sauce that is now GF. If you do not require a gluten free sauce you can use regular soy sauce

SERVES 4 -6 (change servings and units)

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 1/2 teaspoon minced ginger
  • 1 1/2 kg whole green prawns (raw, shelled but with the tail intact)
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 2 teaspoons soy sauce (or tamari sauce)
  • 2 teaspoons sesame seeds

Directions

  1. 1
Peel the prawns leaving the tails intact.
  2. 2
Heat the oil in a wok or heavy based pan. Add the garlic and ginger and cook for 30 seconds.
  3. 3
Stir-fry the prawns until pink, cooking in two batches.Return all of the prawns to the pan and stir in the honey and the soy or tamari sauce.
  4. 4
Serve on a bed of boiled rice and sprinkle with sliced shallots or chopped coriander.

Excellent shrimp recipe! Loved the flavor and the easy prep. Came together very quickly which is a huge plus. Made for the Tastebud Tickling Travellers during ZWT 4.

All the kiddos loved it! DH said it was alright - but it reminded him of sweet and sour - the sweet part. He's not a fan. I loved it! The shrimp definitely isn't as big as the pic posted by Peter J - but there was enough for all to enjoy. This was served with Lavendar Lynn's Lumpia - recipe 261401 for the May NZ/Aussie recipe swap!

Very tasty! Simple and quick to cook. I bought prawns that were already peeled and deveined, so dinner was on in just minutes. This will become one of my standard great dinners on a work night. DS thought it rated 5 stars too.
