Honey & Nut Cheerios Squares

Recipe #53501 | 19 min | 17 min prep | add private note

This is a very simple, yet very tasty, snack bar recipe. I like to use half regular variety Cheerios and half Multigrain Cheerios, but you can use any variety you like. You might also try mixing in some dried fruit or chocolate chips, but I prefer them as is. Especially if you use Multigrain Cheerios, this is a healthier bar than Rice Crispy treats. My whole family likes them, and they are great to make with kids. (Obviously, supervision is needed for the stove with younger children, but an older child can make these themselves.) Prep time includes cooling time.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1
Measure honey and sugar into a large saucepan.
  2. 2
    Heat just to boiling.
  3. 3
Add peanut butter and stir until melted.
  4. 4
Remove from heat and stir in Cheerios, mixing thoroughly to coat evenly.
  5. 5
Fold into a buttered 13x9 pan.
  6. 6
    Allow to cool one minute.
  7. 7
With slightly wet hands, gently press mixture down so that bars will be compact and hold their shape.
  8. 8
Allow to cool thoroughly, about 15 minutes.
  9. 9
    Cut into squares.

Yum! Had everything on hand and made in a snap! I put them in individual foil cups for my kids. Used natural peanut butter. Halved the recipe because I only had a few cheerios left in a box.

Thanks for a wonderful and easy recipe! I altered the ingredients and used Splenda instead of sugar, and used a reduced fat peanut butter. Also sprayed Pam on the pan in place of butter. We have to watch our sugar intake, but can enjoy this delightful treat!

Fantastic! Made exactly as stated and wouldn't change a thing! A good, relatively healthy snack alternative for the kids. Love that the recipe uses honey rather than corn syrup, the honey also gave the squares a great flavor. They store well, unlike marshmallow snack squares. I'll make these again and again! Thanks for sharing the recipe!
