Hoisin Sauce - Microwave

Recipe #92803 | 10 min | 5 min prep | add private note

By: Breez
Jun 6, 2004

Quite a while back, I was visiting my friend Katy, and started flipping through pages of her Kenmore microwave book. At that time I was "playing" with all kinds of Chinese recipes, so I copied this recipe for hoisin sauce. I've had a request to post it here on Zaar.

2 cups (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1
Combine all ingredients in a 4 cup glass microwaveable container and stir well.
  2. 2
Cover with plastic and cook on high power for 4 to 4 1/2 minutes or until thickened.
  3. 3
This makes about 1 3/4 cups sauce.

This made a good 2 1/2 cups of hoisin sauce, which I will use completely over the next few weeks. I like to play with my food a lot. Grpa !!

I have to tell you that I am not really sure what hoisin sauce is supposed to taste like, as I am new to it, but the sauce is easy to make. I made it on my stove. I will be sure to rate this recipe later for you, after I try it in a couple of recipes. Thanks for posting.

I have used this for so many recipes! I never have sherry in my house, and I was on a time limit, so I omitted it, and I loved it anyway. Thank-you for this posting!

Great! I ran out of hoisin halfway through a recipe. In order to make it taste the same, I had to use about 1 teaspoon of Chinese Five Spice (instead of the ginger and pepper), and quite a bit of sugar, as well as more cornstarch as the other one was really thick, but once I got it right it was perfect!
