Healthy Chocolate Nut Squares

Recipe #137724 | 35 min | 15 min prep | add private note

By: ShaGun
Sep 16, 2005

These are very healthy. When I make them I usually eat a large square for breakfast, and then eat a few squares every few hours as snacks. They actually taste like dessert, but they're healthy enough to eat for a meal. This is a revised recipe that I got from the back of Seven in the Morning cereal.

SERVES 16 , 16 squares (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1
Combine all ingredients through the cinnamon (cereal, oats, whole wheat flour, flax seeds, wheat germ, nuts, chocolate chips, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon) in a large mixing bowl.
  2. 2
Add remaining ingredients and stir to combine.
  3. 3
Pour into lightly sprayed 13x9 dish.
  4. 4
Bake at 350 for 20-25 minutes.

these are good. I didn't have any wheat germ so I just used 3 tbsp flax seeds. I also used white flour and olive oil. overall they are good but will wait for huddy to be the final judge tonight!

I love these! So easy and versatile too. I used 1/2 cup of sugar because my applesauce was sweetened, and used almonds as my nut, and did everything else according to the recipe. It came together quickly and the bars froze well, too. Thanks for the recipe!

These are moist and delicious, and they earn extra points for being healthful. I followed the recipe, using Grape Nuts, old-fashioned oats, white whole-wheat flour, pecans, plain yogurt, and applesauce. Great bar for a quick breakfast or snack--thanks for posting the recipe!

These are delicious. I have made them twice in the last two weeks. I was suprised that they stayed moist and "cake-like" in texture. I did make a few substitutions: Used all bran for the cereal, whole flax seeds instead of meal, lite sour cream istead of yogurt, egg beaters instead of eggs, and 1/3 cup of brown sugar splenda istead of 2/3 cup white sugar. I also used home made chunky applesauce, so it had big pieces of moist yummy apple in it. Even my picky kids gobbled these up...thanks for sharing..will be making this one again and again!
