Ham and Swiss Stromboli

Recipe #130952 | 40 min | 10 min prep | add private note

This is a very quick fix, 5-10 min prep, 30 minutes in the oven. Kids love it. I add ranch dressing for additional flavor. I use real bacon bits to save time. You can substitute the cheese of your choice. I have used American, Mild Cheddar and Mozzarella. I have experimented with adding scrambled eggs for a brunch. You can also use the french bread idea for pizza pockets and much more. The possibilities are endless.

SERVES 6 -8 (change servings and units)

Ingredients

  • 1 (11 ounce) package refrigerated French bread dough

  • 6 ounces thinly sliced deli ham
  • 6 green onions, sliced (optional)
  • 8 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded swiss cheese
  • 2-4 tablespoons ranch dressing (optional)

Directions

  1. 1
Unroll dough on a lightly greased baking sheet. Place ham on dough, don't go all the way to the edge, leave about a 1/4 to 1/2 inch; spread Ranch Dressing over the ham; sprinkle evenly with onions, bacon and cheese. Roll up jelly-roll style, start with the long side. Pinch edges to seal and tuck the ends under. Place the seam side down on the baking sheet.
  2. 2
Cut several slits on top of the loaf (about 1/4 in deep). Bake at 350°F for 26-30 minutes until golden brown. Cool a bit before slicing.

I have been making this recipe for years. I find it is a good companion to potato soup on a cold night. There is only three of us here, and there is never any leftovers.

We loved this dish. It was lovely to look at and the taste of the ham, cheese and bacon melted together was soft and crunchy at the same time. I used about 1/3cup of a red pepper chopped and 1/4 cup of red onion chopped instead of the 6 green onions, sliced. The red pepper gave this dish an edge of sweetness. I did not use ranch dressing but, I bet either the ranch or hot sauce mentioned would be a great accompaniment as a dipping sauce. As a side dish, I offered steamed broccoli, sweet potato fries, sliced pickles and sliced tomato from our garden. Thank you for sharing Sazzy!!!

This was a huge hit with the whole family. You can adjust this to your tastes in so many ways. I used Rhoads frozen wheat dough instead and it worked very well! Thanks for sharing such a time saving and delicious recipe.

Loved how quick this was to put together, and the bacon and green onions added such nice flavor. I did take you up on permission to substitute cheeses and used mozzarella, as that is what I had on hand. I didn't have ranch dressing, so skipped it, and cut the onions to 4. I don't think any of these changes hurt it a bit, because it was just delicious! Thanks for sharing your recipe--look forward to seeing more!
