A favorite Southern summertime treat made best with fresh produce!

SERVES 4 -6 (change servings and units)

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs fresh green beans, trimmed and snapped into 1-inch pieces
  • 5 slices bacon, cut into small pieces (or one smoked ham hock)
  • salt, to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 1/3 cups water

Directions

  1. 1
    Combine ingredients in large saucepan.

    Cover and simmer for about 1 hour.

    Yum! This was easy to make and tasted great! I did add a little extra bacon though. I will be adding this into regular rotation at our table. Thank you!

    Who would have thought that stewed green beans could taste so good? Looking forward to trying this again with a ham hock.

    A nice change for us with grean beans. So easy to throw together. I chose to brown the beacon after the cooking was done to top it off. The next time I would like to add onions to ours. Great meal.
