I always wonder when I'm reading a review that has high marks for the recipe but then the cook made so many changes it wasn't even the recipe any more! I guess I'll be that cook this time. I tried this because of the reviews. I didn't want a ground beef dinner, so I used cubed beef shoulder roast. I seasoned it with salt and pepper then dredged it in flour before browning it. Once browned, the meat went into the crock pot. I cooked the onion (1 large), garlic and fresh sliced baby Bella mushrooms in the same skillet then transferred them to the crock. Added the beef bouillon (with 1/4 cup sherry!) and tomato paste to the skillet to loosen the bits and after it simmered for about 5 minutes, I put the sauce in a small bowl. The next morning I dumped the sauce over the meat and onions then cooked at Low for 9 hours. The flavor was great. Thank you for this recipe, Christine.

Great meal to fix when you can't be there to tend the pot. Instead of cooking in crockpot, I put in covered casserole dish and baked at 350° for about an hour (while I was running kiddies to soccer practice). Came home, cooked the noodles and we ate!
