My Grandmother has been making this for over 50 years. Easy, Refreshing and tastes like a Creamsicle. My Grandmother says it's good served with a pork chop or chicken dinner.

SERVES 6 (change servings and units)

Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon unflavored gelatin, soaked in 1 tsp water
  • 1 1/4 cups orange juice, heated
  • 1 cup sugar (I think I'll try Splenda)
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice
  • 1 cup whipping cream, whipped (not heavy)

Directions

  1. 1
Soak gelatin in 1 teaspoon of water.
  2. 2
Heat orange juice and dissolve gelatin and sugar in it. Cool to lukewarm.
  3. 3
Pour orange mix into an 8x8 glass or ceramic dish (I think I'll try tupperware). Cover with plastic wrap and place in freezer until it becomes slushy, approximately 2 hours.
  4. 4
Whip cream and whisk or use mixer to combine with orange slush until no white streaks remain.
  5. 5
Return to freezer for approximately 2 more hours.
  6. 6
    *If it separates, mix again.

Very nice! After chilling, I finished this off with my Cuisinart ice cream maker, and we had the sherbet in about 30 minutes. Delicious. It really does taste like a creamsicle. Made for the Comfort Cafe.

This was the kind of frozen dessert my mom loved making, & this one is every bit as nice tasting as hers was! I stuck with the sugar this time, but might just try the Splenda another time to check out the difference, if any! GREAT TASTE, & thanks for sharing! Very tasty creamsicle dessert! Mine did take much longer to freeze. I had to leave it overnight because after 6 hours, it still wasn't set, but the next morning it was perfect. Yummy. Next time I think I'll try it with pineapple juice. Thanks Engrossed!
