Fantastic Seven Layer Dip

This recipe is from the Ortega web site, I have made this many times in the past for get-togethers and BBQ' and everyone loves this dip! If you are a garlic lover like myself then add in some fresh minced garlic to the sour cream, but it is just as great without the garlic --- this dip can be prepared in advance and refigerated until ready to serve --- my Kittencal's Taco Seasoning Mix works well for this recipe!

SERVES 12 (change servings and units)

Ingredients

  • 1 (16 ounce) can refried beans

  • 1 (1 1/4 ounce) package regular taco seasoning mix
  • 8 ounces sour cream (low-fat is okay)
  • 8 ounces prepared guacamole (store-bought or home-made)
  • 1 cup shredded four-cheese Mexican blend cheese or shredded cheddar cheese (is fine)
  • 1 cup mild salsa

  • 1 (4 ounce) can diced green chilies
  • 1/3 cup sliced green onion
  • 16 ounces tortilla chips

Directions

  1. 1
In a small bowl, combine beans and the taco seasoning mix.
  2. 2
Spread the bean/taco mix evenly over the bottom of an 8-inch square serving dish.
  3. 3
Layer with the sour cream, then the guacamole, then the shredded cheese, then the salsa, then the chiles and last, the green onions.
  4. 4
Serve with lots of tortilla chips-- delicious!

After going to Sam's Saturday, I was wanting 7 layer dip, but didn't want to pay their prices. This recipe was GREAT! It made a ton (for just the 5 of us). Thanks for sharing.

I forgot the salsa and had a layer of just tomatoes instead. But it was fantastic - I think 7 layer dip is always fantastic. My family said this was even better than usual. So two thumbs way up!

Like Merlot, I made this in advance of our "happy hour"! I used Taco Seasoning Mix (#254490 by Aroostock, Guacamole (#117679) by Island Girl & Wonderful Salsa (#9272) by Dorene Nelson ........ making this a truly delicious Zaar dish. I mixed a little low fat sour cream into the beans as they seemed to be rather thick & I hate it when the chips break. I served Doritos cheese nachos & Lays "Scoops" corn chips. Thanx Carol!

Oh Kitten, this is exactly how I make my dip, except I leave out the guacamole as DH doesn't care for it. This is the easiest and best dip in the world...we have even made a light supper out of it. Thanks for posting this fantastic recipe!!!
