Egyptian Fava Bean Dip (Foul Mudammes)

Recipe #9154 | 35 min | 5 min prep | add private note

By: Carol Bullock
May 29, 2001

This is a wonderful breakfast or brunch when you wake up ravenous and really need a protein hit. A Saudi friend taught me how to make this. P.S. If you live in the Seattle area, a little store in the Pike Place Market called The Souk sells fava beans in cans; The store has a lot of great food items.

Love Middle Eastern food in general, and Foul is no exception. Made this, but with a couple of alterations. Used dried beans (cheaper & better than canned) and didn't have a spud so used a bit of sweet potato, which goes really well with this spice mix. Must have been good as I took some of what was left to the Iraqui guys who run my local fish shop, and they gave me a discount on that day's fish. Thanks for the recipe.

Fantastic! I made exactly as specified, with the potato. Delicious on warm naan.

This dip was very easy to make and so tasty. The mix and flavour of all the spices is fantastic. My DH and I enjoy dips as a quick snack and often take them to work with some crackers or vegetable sticks. It will definitely be added to our list of favourites. Thanks for sharing it with us!
