Yummy Indian naan bread .. Goes great with curries etc .. very easy to make since the bread machine does all the work! Try adding spices, or use whole wheat flour instead of white ..

8 large naan (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1
Add ingredients to the bread pan according to the manufacturer's directions.
  2. 2
Set Cycle: dough; Loaf size: 2 lb.
  3. 3
After about 5 minutes, check the dough; add a tablespoon of water at a time if too dry, or a tablespoon of flour at a time if too wet.
  4. 4
Preheat oven to 450F, put 2 baking sheets in to heat for 10 minutes (this will help the naan to puff up and brown).
  5. 5
When dough cycle is done, turn dough onto a floured surface and punch down; Divide into 8 pieces.
  6. 6
Working one at a time, with the other pieces covered, roll dough out to a thickness of about 1/4 inch.
  7. 7
Bake for about 4 minutes, until puffed up.
  8. 8
Brown tops under the broiler, then wrap in a towel to keep warm while cooking the remaining naan.
  9. 9
    These freeze very well.

I loved everything about this recipe. I will say that I did add a bit of water mid-cycle (2 tablespoons) but it was a cold, rainy day and quite frankly this has nothing to do w/ the recipe, maybe more has to do with flour. Other than that, followed the recipe right along. No problems and was delicious! Thank you, najwa! Yum!

Beautiful, puffy naan with the bread machine doing all the hard work! I added 1 tsp garam masala and 2 tsps fresh minced garlic for an extra kick. I will be using this one every time we make indian food!

This was so easy and good! I followed a lot of the comments, if you want it to be tasty like at restaurants, definitely add the garlic and garam masala or any other spices. I also brushed it with both salt water and butter after cooking, and think I could still have added a bit more flavor, like maybe some cilantro or mint or something also mixed in. I am just afraid of killing the yeast, so maybe a more flavorful topping. My 8 year old picky eater son used some raita for dipping and ate dinner saying "yum" over and over again. I also halved the recipe and followed the suggestion, adding quite a few TBSPs of water during the mixing phase. What makes this so great is how easy it is and how beautiful it looks after. The cooking timing was exact and the broiling was so excellent-I felt quite competent when I took them to the table in a basket and they looked so appetizing. I should have taken a photo for you, I didn't notice this recipe didn't have one. I will definitely make it again. I made it with the crockpot chicken vindaloo recipe (using the stovetop comment for cooking) and cannot say how easy the whole thing was.
