I microwaved the water for about 5 minutes, just to make more steam and soften the food particles a little more. To soften the stuff on the bottom of the microwave, I laid a damp kitchen towel down under the cup of water. Wiping out the microwave was so easy! Thanks for sharing.

This worked well, but I had to microwave it a lot longer than 20 seconds, closer to about 3 minutes. I still have some hardened food particles stuck in there [DH thought it would be a good idea to microwave chili... w/o a lid ] so am going to do this one more time to get it all. I think the other reviewers are right in that the water must be boiling when you put it in, and then it needs about 5 minutes. Thanks for sharing!

This worked wonderfully for me. The key here, I think, is that you need to bring the water to a boil and then let it boil for the 20 seconds stated. 20 seconds total won't do much more than warm the water. I nuked it on high for about 4 minutes, then left it in there with the door closed for about 10 minutes. After that, everything wiped off with minimal scrubbing. Thanks for posting this...this will definitely be part of my kitchen cleaning rotation, as I'm the ONLY one in the house who bothers to wipe up splatters in the microwave.

This is the ONLY way I will ever clean my microwave again. I used 1 cup of water & about 3 tablespoons of lemon juice, microwaved for 5 minutes and let it sit for about 5 minutes. The crud wiped off with a damp cloth. Consider me impressed!
