Easy Frosting

Recipe #12314 | 20 min | 10 min prep | add private note

I have been making this recipe for years. I don't know if someone else has the same one, but it is one I came up with when I was first married and I did not care for the store ready-to-spread ones. You can also add food coloring too--I have had some pretty colors with this frosting.

SERVES 12 , 1 for cake or 3 1/4 to 4 dozen cookies (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1
Mix Crisco, butter and vanilla together using medium speed on mixer.
  2. 2
Add confectioners sugar until blended inches.
  3. 3
Add milk, a little bit at a time until you reach the desired consistency you want; creamier for a cake and more liquid for on top of cookies.
  4. 4
You don't want it too thin, just eye it up for what you would be using it for.

Wonderfully easy and delicious recipe. Beats the hell out of the canned stuff and so easy that even I can make it (this was my first time making frosting). I used all butter (1/2 cup) as opposed to shortening and butter and it tastes/looks great. Way too easy for as good as it is. Not a complex flavor I suppose, but DEFINITELY stands up to its name. Would definitely recommend!

This frosting was excellent! I had white cake mix and no frosting and two children beging for cake! I used veggie oil and blue bonnet margarne instead of crisco as well and it came out great! Thanks for sharing this recipe, the cake went n one night!

Wow! Yummy! Super Easy! I've never made my own frosting before....didn't really think it could be done. Thanks for saving me tons of money for all the future cupcakes and cakes I will have to make for my little boy. Good bye Duncan Hines! P.S. I used 1/4 cup of vegetable oil instead of shortening because I didn't have any of that in my house and it still turned out great.

I thought this was a good recipe. The butter-flavored Crisco adds great depth to the flavor!
