I remember the first time I had this at a picnic! My sister brought it and everyone raved about it. I could not believe it when I found out you dumped all of 3 ingredients into a pan (no bowls or mixing) and just baked it! It's really great and just too easy!

SERVES 12 -16 (change servings and units)

Ingredients

  • 2 (20 ounce) cans cherry pie filling

  • 1 (18 1/2 ounce) box chocolate cake mix or devil's food cake mix, unprepared
  • 3/4 cup butter, melted

Directions

  1. 1
    Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. 2
Dump cherry pie filling into 13 x 9 inch cake pan.
  3. 3
    Spread out evenly in pan.
  4. 4
Sprinkle cake mix evenly over filling.
  5. 5
    Drizzle butter over top.
  6. 6
    Bake for 1 hour.
  7. 7
    Serve in pan.

This was a huge failure when I tried to make it. I read the reviews and waited at least a day so it would "soak up" the moisture... it was still crunchy. Sorry, but I would have rather just took the time and effort and made a cake.

This was so good! I really want to try it according to recipe- we didn't have cherries OR chocolate cake mix, so I made a peach-lemon cake! Really good! I also used only 1/2 cup of butter.

This was an interesting dessert. Very easy to make. I made it one evening and we had it the next afternoon. The cake was crispy. The next day we had it after dinner, by then the cake was a bit more moist and had soaked more of the cherry flavor into it. It was delicious. I recommend waiting a day or so before you eat this if you can help yourself.
