I got this recipe out of a Better Homes and Gardens magazine many years ago. Always a hit with the kids or when we take them to Halloween gatherings or work. Cook time is drying time for the peanut butter balls/melting time for the candy coating

20 Eyes (change servings and units)

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup peanut butter
  • 3 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 1 cup sifted powdered sugar
  • 20 M&M's plain chocolate candy
  • 4 ounces vanilla candy coating
  • red decorating gel
  • black decorating gel

Directions

  1. 1
In a mixing bowl stir together peanut butter and butter.
  2. 2
Gradually add powdered sugar, stirring until combined.
  3. 3
Shape into 1-inch balls; place on waxed paper.
  4. 4
Let stand about 20 minutes until dry.
  5. 5
In a small sauce pan melt candy coating over low heat.
  6. 6
Dip balls, one at a time, into coating.
  7. 7
Let excess coating drip off peanut butter balls.
  8. 8
    Place on waxed paper.
  9. 9
Immediately press an M&M into center of each peanut butter ball.
  10. 10
Let stand until coating is firm.
  11. 11
Add a dot of black gel to the center of candy pieces for pupils.
  12. 12
Drizzle red gel onto balls for bloodshot eyes.

I just made these for a Halloween party and they were a hit. However I think that the next time I try making these, I may put the peanut butter balls into the fridge instead of just letting them dry because they didn't really keep their shape while I had to cover them with the chocolate. But overall, they came out great.

just a heed of warning: must make sure you put the unmarked side of M&M up, altho the black pupil might cover the white M&M mark.

These are delicious but were left with sticky fingers from the gel. My daughter painted on veins with red food coloring on a few of the eye’s, it worked great and was not any harder than using the gel.
