This popcorn is easy and delicious. It is a hit with children and the "inner child" within us all. During the holidays, my husband adds food coloring for a festive bowl of popcorn.

SERVES 4 (change servings and units)

Ingredients

  • 2/3 cup popcorn
  • 1/4 cup cooking oil
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • salt

Directions

  1. 1
    Heat Oil over medium heat in a large skillet with a tight fitting lid.
  2. 2
    Add Popcorn and continue to heat until first kernel pops.
  3. 3
    quickly stir in sugar until it is dissolved.
  4. 4
    Cover and continue to shake skillet, popcorn may burn, be careful.
  5. 5
    After the popcorn is popped, pour in a bowl and lightly salt.

it was good but not kettle corn, t was more like caramel, but thanks for sharing, i will use again for caramel corn

    I would have liked it, but I move it down to 1 servinig, and I think I did something wrong. But then, I lifted the lid after the first kernal popped, but I didn't have time to stir in the sugar, since the popcorn was attcking me! It hurt! I think I might try again after I clean out the pot though...

    Oh, yum! Like ChrisF, I made this in my Whirley-Pop... a great kitchen gadget to have if you're a popcorn lover like me. I made a half recipe (2 servings all for me!) and used half the oil (I used olive) called for. The end result? A wonderful big bowl of crispy, sweet and absolutely lovely homemade kettle corn. I was a little concerned that the sugar would burn, but it just caramelized and coated the popcorn just wonderfully. I can't believe how easy this was! I'll be making this again for sure. Thanks for a terrific snack!

    Ooooh, yummy, yummy! I did this in my cast iron skillet,using extra virgin olive oil, and it turned out wonderful! I will definately make this again! Thanks Dawn!
