Cute Edible Apple Turkey (Thanksgiving Treat)

Recipe #143983 | 5 min | 5 min prep

These are really cute turkeys made out of apples that kids can make for school or just eat as a snack. They also make adorable Thanksgiving Table decorations. They can be made with either Fruit Loops or raisins. Rule: broken Fruit Loops must be eaten. Variations: head can be a cut out that is glued on or a large marshmallow with raisin eyes and a candy corn stuck into it for a beak.

1 Turkey (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1
To make the feathers: Take raisins or Fruit Loops and slide onto toothpicks about 3/4 the way down. Place a mini-marshmallow on the end. You will need 6 or 7 "feathers" depending on the size of your apple.
  2. 2
Stick the "feathers" into the back of the apple.
  3. 3
To make the head: Slide raisins down toothpick and top with a green olive (head). Use cloves for eyes. If your olive has a pimiento you can pull it out the back of the olive and let it hang so that it looks like a turkey wattle.
  4. 4
Insert three toothpicks under the turkey so it can stand freely.

This was a great project to do with my kids, and the apple turkeys made adorable decorations on our holiday appetizer platters. They were a huge hit with the whole family!

LOL! I made these and they looked so cute sitting on the table! I used green apples, golden raisins, green olives stuffed with Cheddar cheese and frilly toothpicks. Thanks so much for posting such a fun recipe!

Oh My Goodness! These are cute. Plan to use these for preschool/kindergarten next year. My four year old just made one by herself with what she found in the frig and cupboard; she used whole cranberries and raisins and we just cut up large marshmallows to make smaller ones. Thank you for sharing!

This was really fun to make Thanksgiving day. I used a large seedless black grape for the head and also put on a candy corn beak cut down to size and attached using a toothpick tip. I alternated chocolate covered raisins and plain jumbo golden raisin to make the tail feathers. I used the finished product as a table centerpiece and all of the guests really got a kick out of it. Am looking forward to making it again next year!
