Now that I make these, I won't settle for the ones in the store. (I originally got this recipe from Chef Doozer, now that she is at Zaar, it is sweet of her to review it for me!)

SERVES 4 (change servings and units)

Ingredients

  • 3 potato hamburger buns or hot dog buns (or other bread)
  • 3-6 tablespoons olive oil or canola oil
  • 1/2 tablespoon Lawry's Seasoned Salt

Directions

  1. 1
Cut buns into bite size pieces.
  2. 2
You can also use bread, which can be fresh or 'day-old'.
  3. 3
Place pieces in a bowl and drizzle oil over as you stir to coat.
  4. 4
Feel free to use more or less oil than is called for.
  5. 5
The more oil you use, the more melt-in-your-mouth they will be.
  6. 6
    Sprinkle with seasoning salt.
  7. 7
You can also use garlic powder, oregano, Italian seasoning or any combination of them.
  8. 8
Bake at 350°F for about 15 minutes, stirring once.

I used stale french bread and it cooked way too quick. My croutons tasted like burnt bread even taking them out at 13 minutes BUT being the bread lover I am, I seasoned them heavily and ate it anyways! Just make sure you keep an eye on them around the 10 to 15 minute marker. Besides that, these are how you make croutons, for sure!

YUM!!!! I added some sliced galic cloves and popped the oil in the microwave for just a minute to infuse it with the garlic. Everyone LOVED these, and I was just using up some hot dog rolls that would have otherwise went in the garbage. AWESOME!
