I'm giving this four stars because my husband really liked it, but I thought it was just okay. I was hoping the bacon would give more flavor than it did, but it seemed like the mushrooms overpowered the bacon flavor and I'm not crazy about mushrooms.

This is a very rich dish! Salty, Smoky, Creamy and easy! I did make a couple of changes. I used mini penne pasta, Dried porcini mushrooms {didn`t state what kind of mushroon to use}that I soaked in water strained the water and used the liquid in the sauce{intense flavor}, yellow onion in place of the scallion, and 2 percent milk in place of the cream. Thier was enough saltiness from the bacon and cheese so be sure to taste before adding salt. I added lots of pepper. I would add some fresh or frozen green peas for color next time. Thanks kdp!

Very good recipe even when made with 2% milk in place of the cream. A full pound of bacon sounds like a lot, but the taste did not overpower the dish and adding the cooked bacon in to the dish was great since you got to get a bit in every fork full. (cook the bacon until quite crisp so it won't get too wobbly when added to the sauce) I would say that the addition of peas really made the dish.
