These are so addictive! I gave this recipe to some folks who now make 2 batches a week! This was given to me by Joyce, a co-worker. Note : Please use the large pretzels broken into pieces, these absorb the oil and flavor better then nuggets, or small twists. added: 10/29/08

SERVES 6 (change servings and units)

Ingredients

  • 1 ounce ranch dressing mix, hidden valley original Ranch dressing
  • 16 hard pretzels, broken into pieces (1 whole bag)
  • 3/4 cup oil, I use olive
  • 1 tablespoon dried dill weed or 1 sprig fresh dill weed
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt (optional)

Directions

  1. 1
    Preheat oven to 275°F.
  2. 2
Mix oil, garlic salt, onion salt, Hidden Valley dressing in a bowl with pretzels to coat pretzels.
  3. 3
Bake for 15-25 minutes at 250°F stirring several times.
  4. 4
Remove from oven to cool, stirring frequently until cool and well coated with the dressing.
  5. 5
I sometimes add extra kosher salt to this as well as some cayenne pepper for added zing.

In response to Linda's Post. Linda, I 100% agreed with you the first time I made this. However, I would like to see you try it again and do the following. Do not use garlic salt, use garlic powder and do the same for the onion salt, use powder. I also do not put in the kosher salt or the cayenne peper. However, I do double everything, using powder of course, except the oil and ranch mix. One last change, right before you place them in the oven, sprinkle some parm cheese on them. I am willing to bet you will change you mind. Hope this helps!!

This is a heart attack waiting to happen! Between the Ranch dressing mix and all the other salts this was way too salty for my taste. Thank you for sharing your recipe with us though! Linda

wonderful! I made these for a treat on a road trip...what a treat! I used sourdough nuggets...so there wasn't any breaking too do. I also cut down on the oil by a 1/4 cup....only suggestion...is next time I'll make double the recipe!! Thank you Chef Shadows.

Addictive is exactly right! I loved these! I used a bag of tiny pretzel twists instead of the larger ones. I also doubled the amount of cayenne. I measured out the oil, but everything was well coated with less than half of the amount. The flavor is terrific and very well seasoned. I loved the addition of the dill. I stored them in a plastic container after cooling and they have held well. This recipe would be great for care packages or gifts bags. Thank you for sharing a recipe I will uses again & again.
