I have had this recipe for years, handwritten. No idea where it came from originally, but what a great dish that really will impress guests.

SERVES 4 (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1
Split the raw shrimp lengthwise, so they can be opened flat, but do not cut all the way through.
  2. 2
Spread the shrimp flat in a 9" X 13" baking dish and set aside.
  3. 3
In medium skillet, melt 2 tbsp butter and then saute onion, celery and green pepper until onion is transparent.
  4. 4
    Remove from heat.
  5. 5
    Add parsley.
  6. 6
    Toss this mixture with crabmeat.
  7. 7
Add seasonings, breadcrumbs, egg and cream.
  8. 8
    Toss gently, but thoroughly.
  9. 9
    Mound crab mixture on shrimp.
  10. 10
Melt 1/2 cup butter and add minced garlic. Pour over shrimp and crab mixture.
  11. 11
Sprinkle top with paprika and bake in 400 degree oven for 20 minutes.

Made this for dinner a few nights ago. Very rich, very delicious! DH and I ate it all in one sitting, despite serving 4, it was that good. I'd definitely make this again. Thanks!

Delicious. A bit of Old Bay can be added with no loss.

Great dish! I topped it with some shredded Swiss cheese and baked it an additional 5 minutes. Also, I used medium shrimp but didn't butterfly them. Worked great! Definitely a keeper!

Great dish. Very, very rich. Substitutions I made: 1 lb. small shrimp; 1 c. water with 3/4 c. dry skim milk; imitation crab meat. I also first put 2 c. cooked white rice on the bottom of the pan rather than serving on the side. This turned out to be a good idea anyway as I realized too late that I was out of eggs, so I simply increased the breadcrumbs to 3/4 c. and prayed the rice would soak up any excess liquid. It was wonderful, great flavor, and I will certainly make it again. Although the celery was a bit excessive; I will reduce to 1/2 c. next time. Also, by adding the rice, I feel this makes more like 6-8 servings.
