Hearty, stick-to-your-ribs pie.

SERVES 6 -8 (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Directions

    Pre-heat oven to 375 degrees.

    Brown the beef in oil.
  3. 3
    Remove from pan and set aside.
  4. 4
    Drain most of the accumulated fat from the pan.
  5. 5
    Sauté onions until tender, and then add chopped tomatoes and cook for 2-3 minutes.

    Add broth and stir in herbs and seasonings.
  7. 7
    Return brown meat to skillet and continue cooking for 5 minutes.

    Transfer all ingredients to an ovenproof casserole.
  9. 9
    Top with mashed potatoes (scoring them with a fork.) Dot with butter and bake uncovered in 375-degree oven for 30-40 minutes.

Great meal for the family. I added tomato paste as suggested to thicken it up and it came out wonderful. Thanks for sharing!

    I made this for our St. Patricks Day cook a thon. Was very tasty and we all liked the potato topping,I have a similar recipe. Its easy to make. I added a dash of Worcestershire sauce.

    This is one to make when you want to get away from the gravy-based shepherd's pies. The flavors of thyme and sage with the loose meat is very good.
