Copycat Sweetened Condensed Milk Substitute (Paula Deen)

Recipe #105568 | 10 min | 5 min prep | add private note

By: Roxygirl in Colorado
Dec 7, 2004

Paula Deen made this on her show. It is the butter that sets this apart from other recipes. This milk is so thick and creamy you will want to eat it with a spoon (or at least I always do)! I have used this several times and it has worked like a charm. I am so happy to have this for the holidays, since it's usually the one ingredient I'm out of.

I found that this homemade version of sweetened condensed milk did not work well in my seven layer bar recipe. It kind of disappeared into the crust, instead of becoming like a light caramel layer. I'll try one you cook next time, and see how it works out.

The best recipe for sweetened condensed milk. It makes milk with perfect thicknes and sweetnes. Amount of butter can be reduced, if liked, though.

I have used this recipe and love the taste. It also works well with Splenda for a no sugar added bonus. I boil the water in a sauce pan and use my hand held blender.
