This is an inexpensive way to make this clone, use in all your recipes calling for one 14-ounce can of sweetened condensed milk.

1 (14-ounce) can (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1
Combine all ingredients in a blender or processor; mix until completey smooth and combined (I use my small 4-cup processor for this).
  2. 2
Cool to room temperature (the mixture will thicken even more upon standing).
  3. 3
If not using right away transfer to an airtight container, and refrigerate for up to 2 weeks.
  4. 4
*NOTE* this recipe is equivalent of one 14-ounce can and may be prepared and frozen in a covered freezer container for later use, this freezes very well just remove from freezer (the mixture will remain soft) and stir vigorously with a spoon.
  5. 5
Use as you would in any recipes calling for sweetened condensed milk.

Wonderful substitution recipe. We thought it was a tad grainy in comparison to the canned kind but easy to make. It does set up very thick-depending on the recipe I would possibly add another couple of teaspoons of boiling water.

I made it with splenda. I took a chance and it worked out great. It's thick enough like the real thing. The taste is great. Thanks Kittencal. Made for Top Favorites of 2008 tag game

My favorite RZ recipes are often those that help me w/ingredient issues I face in Iceland & your recipe ranks in my Top 3 for sure. Sweetened condensed milk cannot be found here, even in high-priced import stores. To satisfy my DHs pleas for key lime pie, I opted for a clone & found your recipe. As it was basically a test effort, I chose to make just the pie filling in ramekins. The prep was so easy, but worrisome as the only dry milk available was full-fat, not skim. My mixture was very thick (like a frosting). I added 2 tbsp boiling water to the mixture, went full speed ahead & prayed. I can happily report it worked like a charm, the filling was the perfect consistency to be cut like a pie & my DH will be a happy camper tonite. My spec thx to you for this recipe ~ a new winner for me

So glad I happpened to look this up. It's recipes like this that end up being my favorites. Simple money savers. This stuff tastes great and worked just fine. I won't buy SCM again. Give it a try. The first couple times I checked on it during blending it was still a bit grainy. So I just turned it on and went to fold laundry lol When I came back it was good to go. Thanks for posting!
