Cookies 'n Cream Ice Cream

Recipe #126436 | 35 min | 10 min prep | add private note

This is very yummy, great for summer! We had a terrible time trying to find a recipe for Cookies and Cream, so here we go. This also makes a very rich vanilla custard ice cream base if you leave out the cookies. Prep time does not include cooling and freezing time.

10 cups ice cream (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1
Heat half and half until very hot (not boiling), stirring often.
  2. 2
Mix egg yolks and sugar until well blended and slightly thickened, very gradually blend in hot half and half.
  3. 3
Add mixture to a medium sauce pan and cook over medium heat until steamy and bubbles form around edge, stirring constantly. Do not boil.
  4. 4
Once hot, pour into a large bowl and stir in whipping cream, vanilla, and salt.
  5. 5
    Cover and chill thoroughly.
  6. 6
Add to ice cream maker per your manufacturer's instructions, stir in crushed oreos during last stage of freezing.

This was so yummy and easy. It was my first time using my ice cream maker. The consistency is really smooth and creamy. I add the vanilla after the custard has cooled a bit so that it won't evaporate.

I loved this recipe! I added chocolate syrup and more oreo cookies halfway between the freezing process and wow, it was spectacular! The high fat content leaves such a rich creamy flavor in your mouth, it's a wonder my family of three finished it in 2 days! Bravo! Definitely a keeper!

Sinfully good! Works out perfectly even without an ice cream maker, just giving it a good stir every 1/2 h until frozen.

I made this for the first time and it was an absolute SMASH! My sister tried it and said that it rivaled BLUEBELL (which is a staple in my family) Awesome recipe!
