This is just like the sweet, gooey icing that comes inside tiny tins inside those tubes of refrigerated cinnamon bun doughs. By changing the extract flavor, you can make orange cinnamon buns, lemon cinnamon buns, whatever you like.

2 cups icing (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1
Mix together sugar and enough cream to achieve a spreading consistency.
  2. 2
Add extract flavor of your choice and salt (if desired- I omit).
  3. 3
To use: Spread over warm biscuits or sweet bread still warm from the oven or drizzle over gingerbread cookies.
  4. 4
This also makes a nice icing for quick breads like banana bread or zucchini bread.

I should of known how to make this, I was absolutely stressed to the max, and I needed a special icing to ice my cinnamon/raisin bread I made for a Holiday gift. I sat down, and typed in Cinnamon Bun Icing, and this wonderful recipe popped up. I had everything on hand, (which by itself was a miracle - because I typically am out of "something") and made this more then delightful recipe, and it does taste like the Pillsbury Cinnamon Buns! Oh thank you, Heather! You have saved the day! Winter 2008.

Nice icing. I drizzled this over Cinnamon Rolls Using Cakemix #93231 last night. Very sweet, easy to pour, this was just the right icing to use; I wasn't looking for a thick cream cheese icing at the time. I used 3 Tbs of milk instead of cream; worked just fine. I also liked the flavor better after adding the vanilla extract; did not use the salt.

Excellent and quick. I made Overnight Cinnamon Rolls for a work luncheon, and needed icing but didn't have any cream cheese. I made this icing and it was great. The cinnamon roll pan came home empty. (the only change I made was I used 2% milk instead of cream - it worked great)
