Recipe #151869 | 12 min | 10 min prep | add private note

By: Adopted Parisian
Jan 17, 2006

An unexpected delight! A good diversion from the usual desserts from The Food Network's "Everyday Italian". Literally a dessert sandwich!

SERVES 6 (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1
Heat a panini grill to medium according to the manufacturer's instructions.
  2. 2
Spread the chocolate-hazelnut spread over 1 side of all of the pound cake slices. Arrange the sliced strawberries over 6 cake slices. Cover with the remaining cake slices, chocolate side down.
  3. 3
Spray panini grill with nonstick spray and grill each panino until the pound cake is crisp and golden and the fillings are warm, about 2 minutes. Cut each panino in half and serve.

So yummy! The poundcake was so nice and soft, a real treat! Don't have a panini grill, so just seared it in a skillet with a pat of butter. Had no problems with it crumbling. I cut the recipe to make only 2 sandwiches (one for each of us) and found myself wishing I'd made more! Great treat for Nutella nuts!

I loved this too! My pound cake crumbled a little bit but it was spectacular tasting!

I saw Giada make this a long time ago and kept the idea in the back of my head. Last week, DBF wanted to make paninis. I don't think this is what he had in mind, but it was definitely our favorite. I made mine pretty much as written above and I made his with bananas instead of strawberries. Instead of non-stick spray, I buttered the outsides of the pound cake. I served them with whipped cream.

I had seen these prepared on Everyday Italian and thought that they looked good. However, television did not ready me for the richness of this sandwich. It was incredibly sweet and the Nutella and strawberries are a great combo with the pound cake. I couldn't finish my sandwich, though. A little goes a long way with this.
