My kids love this stuff for a breakfast treat. My husband thinks it's better as a dessert, after his eggs and bacon, LOL. This recipe is posted for Newspapergal. I found it in an old church cookbook, the original recipe provided by a dear friend of my aunt's. This is to be served over hot, buttered biscuits-an extra yummy treat for the kids, little and big ones alike!

SERVES 6 (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1
Combine the sugar, cocoa, flour, and salt.
  2. 2
Add in just enough of the milk to make the mixture a smooth paste.
  3. 3
Gradually add the rest of the milk, stirring well.
  4. 4
Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the consistency of pudding.
  5. 5
Remove from heat and add vanilla.
  6. 6
    Serve over hot, buttered biscuits.

I made half the recipe, and it was delicious on the hot biscuits. I had some leftover so later I spooned it on a slice of pound cake after dinner. Both were a real treat. Thanks Lori! Made and enjoyed for PAC Spring '09.

There's nothing like homemade biscuits and chocolate gravy. I'm glad to see that not only my family loves this recipe. We always have to serve it with bacon to balance out the sweet with something salty. YUMMY!!

Delicious. I hadn't had this treat since childhood, and this was just as wonderful as I remembered. I sifted my dry ingredients together to avoid lumpy cocoa, and it took about 18 minutes of constant stirring before it thickened. I think this made a lot more than 6 servings - I will halve it next time! Thank you so much, LoriInIndiana, for posting this for me.
